Visiting Dinosaurs

The first weekend in October we decided to take the kids on a mini vacation and headed to Vernal to visit the museum and just get away for a day or two. This was the first time we have taken a vacation when we haven't been going to visit family. And the first time for the kids to stay in a hotel. We left early Saturday morning and came home Sunday evening, Not a long trip but we had a great time just the 4 of us. No real plans on what we were going to do, just winging it. :)
When we got into town, after eating some lunch and checking into the hotel we headed to the Utah Field House of Natural History to check out the dino's there. Here's some of what we saw when we were there...

Glad there's glass between him and us!
I thought this was neat. They weren't done with the mural and you could see the sketches of what they were working on behind the displays.
Looks like Nathan's getting a kiss.
After the museum we decided to drive over to Flaming Gorge Dam and check things out there. It was really pretty and the weather was perfect!

Sunday morning we headed over to the temple to take some pictures....

And then we headed over to the visitors center over at the Quarry. The Quarry is currently closed. I guess they have some cool fossils you can see, but they are currently closed while doing some remodeling. We were able to take a shuttle and do a little 1 mile hike to see a few fossils in some of the rocks.

This was one of the fossils we saw. It's a vertebrae of something, I can't remember what. If you look closely there's an error pointing it out...

Nathan with his hand on another one of the fossils...

After seeing the fossils we headed back and headed home. We had such a great time that now we want to start planning more little mini weekend vacations. Wonder what we'll come up with next?
